Faculty

Jim Wikel, PWS, CRM, is a citizen of the Seneca-Cayuga Nation of Oklahoma, currently residing in Salem, OR.  He is a peer supporter and a peer with lived experience in addiction and mental health challenges. In 2015, he began his peer support journey working as a peer support specialist at a community mental health center in rural northeastern Oklahoma. It was there that he got in touch with his roots as a Native person in recovery and it was there that he found himself. He also had a vision of decolonizing behavioral health and substance use treatment in working with Native peers. In his experience, getting connected to culture and learning language has been the single most healing component of his recovery journey. In his work with Native peers he shares that experience, and encourage them to learn who they are by learning their own cultures and languages.

Peer Recovery ECHO Program

Jim is faculty for the Peer Recovery ECHO Program, which is designed to educate peer specialists in the management and care of patients with substance use disorders.
