In this presentation Dr. Lucas Dunklee shares a review of evidence on Ketamine and Esketamine treatments and current uses in psychiatry to enhance understanding of ketamine-related treatments, particularly their role in managing treatment-resistant depression (TRD), along with the associated risks and knowledge gaps in this field. He provides foundational understanding of the theorized mechanisms underlying ketamine’s therapeutic effects, appreciate the risks and complexities involved in ketamine treatments, and develop an improved ability to assess when referrals for ketamine treatments are appropriate or should be discouraged.

Dr. Lucas Dunklee is an outpatient psychiatrist with ABPN board certification in adult general psychiatry. Currently an Assistant Professor at the University of New Mexico (UNM), with pending promotion to Associate Professor. Dr. Dunklee blends clinical practice with educational responsibilities, with expertise in advanced psychopharmacology, psychodynamic psychotherapy, esketamine treatment, and electroconvulsive therapy.
