Advancing Pharmacist Roles in Substance Use Disorder Treatment and Recovery Teams

August 20 @ 10:00 am PDT

It is estimated that substance use disorders (SUDs) affect more than 40 million people in the United States, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), with the numbers disproportionately impacting our underserved populations and rapidly continuing to rise.

What are YOU doing to manage SUDs in your community?

It has already been widely demonstrated that pharmacists are well positioned to meet the call to action to assume an important role in preventing and treating SUDs, and should prepare themselves to perform this function through available resources and opportunities.

One such opportunity is the Indian Country Advancing Pharmacist Roles in Substance Use Disorder Treatment and Recovery Teams ECHO Program, an IHS HOPE Committee and Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board collaboration.

Each month, Indian Country ECHO offers a virtual ECHO session with a multidisciplinary team of pharmacists and specialists focusing on effectively preventing, treating, and supporting persons with SUDs. These 1-hour long sessions provide the opportunity to connect with peers, engage in didactic presentations, collaborate on patient and systems-based case consultations, receive mentorship from clinical experts, and become part of a progressive, learning community.
