In this series of presentations, Dr. Jorge Mera, provides an overall infectious disease clinical update. Then, Dr. Jessica Dalby, discusses how to implement a facility level policy for penicillin allergy assessment, shares how to develop protocols for risk assessments and amoxicillin challenge, and reviews how to provide optimal treatment strategies for patients with syphilis.

Dr. Jess Dalby is an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Wisconsin.  She earned her medical degree in 2008 from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas and completed a family medicine residency at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2011. Her current clinical practice is part of the Access Community Health Center network in Madison, Wi, where she has been caring for multigenerational families for the past 15 years. In 2017, she became the medical consultant for sexual and reproductive health with the City of Milwaukee Health Department. Her recent work has focused on addressing the Wisconsin syphilis resurgence and has included developing on-line CME courses to enhance clinician knowledge to better recognize and treat syphilis and its complications.

Dr. Jorge Mera is the Director of Infectious Diseases for Cherokee Nation Health Services (CNHS), the largest tribally operated health care system in the United States. He completed his fellowship in Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas and is Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) in Infectious Diseases. During recent years Jorge’s efforts have been dedicated to organizing the Cherokee Nation HCV elimination program, as well as the HIV/HCV ECHO project. He is also the Director of the HIV clinic since 2012 and the Principal Investigator of the End the HIV Epidemic for the CNHS. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine of the Oklahoma State University Health Science Center and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.
