In this series of presentations, Dr. Michael Toedt, Chief Medical Officer for IHS, provides an epidemiology update. Then Dr. Ipsit Vahia, Medical Director for both the Institute for Technology in Psychiatry and Geriatric Psychiatry Outpatient Programs at McLean Hospitals, discusses the mental health effects of COVID -19 in older adults; specifically Dr Vahia reviews the mechanisms by which SARS-CoV2 can impact the brain, the process of grief and how COVID-19 can disrupt this in older adults, the impact of loneliness and isolation as well as the mechanisms of resilience in older adults in the context of COVID-19.
