Danita Macy has been at Oregon State University for over 20 years serving her local Native communities. She is currently the OSU SNAP-Ed/ Family & Community Health Program Coordinator for the Urban Native Indigenous program. Much of her knowledge as a Food Preservation Educator came from her grandmother who taught her to preserve and gather food. Danita is Basque/ Welsh/ Anishinaabe. She partners closely with local and nationwide Tribal programs and food sovereignty cohorts, including the Indigenous Food and Agriculture Initiative (IFAI) Tribal Food Safety Alliance, Future Generations Collaborative Indigenous Food Sovereignty Alliance, and Northwest Indian Health Board Food Sovereignty Initiative and Northwest Tribal Food Sovereignty Coalition. Supporting communities working with NARA and NAYA, USDA/FNS, and supports her OSU colleagues co-leading The Indigenous Peoples Workgroup (IPWG) at OSU, serving Native Indigenous populations who are working to build Tribal-led partnerships within Indigenous Tribes and organizations. Becoming allies in the community, supporting Tribal sovereignty, Indigenous data, food sovereignty, and traditional foods in schools.

I am from the lakes, ponds, and marshes place. I am an enrolled member of The Klamath Tribes in Southern Oregon and I currently live on the Umatilla Indian Reservation. I am currently a graduate student at the University of Minnesota Duluth for Master’s of Tribal Resource & Environmental stewardship. I have worked in tribal food systems for the past eight years and I consider myself a hunter, gatherer, gardener and novice beekeeper. I currently serve as the Manager of the Food Sovereignty Initiatives for the WEAVE NW Project at the Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board.
