In this series of presentations, Dr. Leslie Stewart, Infectious Diseases physician at the IHS Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility, welcomes Dr. Mary Choi, Medical Officer for the CDC, as she presents on Hantavirus Disease and the 5-point screen. Dr. Choi provides an overview of Hantavirus, the epidemiology in the U.S., the clinical presentation of hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome (HCPS), and related laboratory testing, treatment, and hantavirus 5-point screen. Then, CDR Donna Gilbert, Acting Director of the Division of Environmental Health Services serving Navajo Area Indian Health Services and Elvina Clark, District Sanitarian serving the Gallup and Crownpoint Indian Health Service Units, both perform site investigations and briefly share what a “site visit” entails.

Leslie Stewart, MD, is an infectious diseases physician who has worked in Chinle, Arizona since 2018. She has a special interest in pre-exposure prophylaxis for HIV (PrEP) and HIV care. She completed her internal medicine and infectious diseases training at the University of Pennsylvania where she is an adjunct assistant professor. Leslie is board certified in infectious diseases and internal medicine.
