The Northwest Elders and Knowledge Keepers ECHO session took place on July 11th, 2023. In this presentation, Jefferson Greene (Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs) provides an overview on Canoe Journey.

Jefferson Greene
Jefferson Greene (Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs) is the Executive Director and founder of the Columbia River Institute for Indigenous Development Foundation (CRÍID), which was launched in 2019 after several canoe journeys, and focuses focus on preserving, sharing, and advancing Columbia River Customs and Language through community collaboration and engagement. Jefferson a licensed Ichishkín Language Instructor, and previously taught for three years on the Warm Springs Indian Reservation in Oregon, followed by full-time language revitalizing with Tribal elders.
After graduating from high school in Warm Springs, Jefferson attended Mt. Hood Community College, where he co-founded the Chako Kumtux student group, as well as co-coordinated the Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán (MEChA) chapter. Greene then transferred to Portland State University (PSU), and at the same time started a small home recording studio, followed by a role as the head-recording engineer at the Apollo Sound Production Studio, and ultimately launched his own music production company (Gold Mind Music Productions) while also working part-time jobs in the hospitality industry.
While pursuing his degree, Greene worked with the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs (CTWS) as a Government Affairs intern, and was elected as both co-coordinator for the United Indian Students in Higher Education at PSU and the Chairman for the Northwest Indian Youth Conference. Jefferson graduated with his Bachelors degree in Business, Marketing & Advertising. In the time since, he has coordinated three Beautification Projects, started two small businesses, worked in both the CTWS Judicial and Government Affairs Branches, completed the Ford Leadership Institute’s Community Development training and project, began coordinating the Central Oregon Recycling Project, and was appointed to both the Warm Springs Composite Products Board of Directors and the Central Oregon 10-Year Plan to End Chronic Homelessness and Poverty.
An artist as well, Greene offers classes to students near, far, kindergarten to professional level language, arts, sports, health, and spiritual education and workshops.
