People experiencing homelessness are at far greater risk during the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Jennie Wei, an Internal Medicine Specialist at the Gallup Indian Medical Center, discusses the risk factors associated with homelessness and COVID-19. She shares strategies for preventing the spread of COVID-19 in shelter settings, and identifies isolation housing options for people who have been exposed. Dr. James Winde, the Medical Director at Yellowhawk Tribal Health Center, shares testing strategies and lessons learned from surveillance studies at Umatilla.

Jennie Wei, MD, MPH, has been working as an Internal Medicine Physician at Gallup Indian Medical Center since 2012, spending half of her clinical time as a hospitalist and half as a primary care physician. She also founded the Gallup IHS Transgender Clinic in 2013, which provides primary care, hormone therapy and peer support for transgender patients. She received her undergraduate, medical degree and master of public health at Harvard and completed Internal Medicine residency and Chief Residency at the University of California, San Francisco, where she is an Assistant Clinical Professor. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Addiction Medicine.
James Winde, MD, is the Medical Director at Yellowhawk Tribal Health Center.
