In this set of two presentations, Dr. Danica Love Brown, Behavioral Health Manager at the Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board, describes the principles of trauma informed care and shares some tips for mental health wellness during quarantine. Then, Dr. Ashley Comiford, an Epidemiologist for Cherokee Nation, outlines the process for case investigation and contact tracing.

Danica Love Brown, MSW, PhD, is a citizen of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, born and raised in Northern New Mexico. She currently is the Behavioral Health Manager at the Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board and has worked as a mental health and substance abuse counselor, social worker and youth advocate for over 20 years. She has a history of working in the areas of prevention, drug and alcohol/mental health treatment, community and restorative justice, and sexual health with Native American and adjudicated youth, families and women. She specializes in working with culturally and socioeconomically diverse populations and Tribal communities, utilizing a trauma informed care framework.

Ashley Comiford, DrPH, is an epidemiologist for the Cherokee Nation Community Health Promotion Programs. She serves as the Cherokee Nation Youth Risk Behavior Survey Coordinator, Data Analyst for the Cherokee Nation Adult Tobacco Survey, and Lead Evaluator for the Cherokee Nation Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program. Her research interests include Native American public health research, specifically tobacco use and prevention and related chronic diseases.
