Dr. Laura Byerly, MD
Dr. Laura Byerly is an internal medicine doctor who specializes in geriatrics. She provides clinical care for older adults within both primary care and skilled-nursing/long-term care settings. She strives to use a holistic and team-based approach to the care of older adults that brings the patient and family’s goals to the forefront of care. As a clinician educator, she actively encourages and supports the education of trainees of all professions and levels in geriatric care.
Dr. Byerly, a Portland-area native, earned a history degree from Boston University. During that time, she interned and worked at the Boston University Alzheimer’s Disease Center and developed an interest in working with older adult patients and their families. Throughout her medical training at OHSU and Massachusetts General Hospital, Dr. Byerly’s interests in geriatric medicine grew to include educating the next generation of providers about caring for older adults. While completing two fellowships at the University of California at San Francisco, she developed and implemented novel geriatrics curricula while researching the roles of health professions students on interprofessional geriatric care teams.
