In this presentation, Dara Shahon, M.D. and Dawn Clary, O.D., discuss the IHS Joslin Vison Network (JVN), Teleopthalmology Program. They discuss how the program was designed to prevent diabetes-related blindness in American Indians and Alaska Natives, how they are currently using telemedicine technology to provide high quality, cost-effective, annual diabetic eye exams and the future in this field.

Dara Shahon, MD is the Director (Acting), of the IHS-JVN Teleophthalmology Program and is a practicing ophthalmologist in Phoenix, Arizona. She is also a JVN Certified Reader/Adjudicator, IHS-JVN National Reading Center.
Dawn Clary, OD is the Director of the Indian Health Service’s Joslin Vision Network Teleophthalmology Program and National Reading Center, in addition to her role as the Chief Clinical Consultant for Optometry.
